La vita ti mette davanti quello che vuole, quando vuole, e a volte è davvero difficile.

Elena, penso spesso a te e alla tua storia. A quanto hai dovuto affrontare, a quanto ti è stato chiesto di sopportare e a quante volte hai dovuto trovare la forza per andare avanti.

E poi guardo queste fotografie.

Vedo te. Vedo tua mamma sempre accanto a te. Vedo i tuoi due bambini meravigliosi. Vedo la vita che c’è oggi...l’amore, le risate, il caos, la quotidianità.

E penso che forse questo è quello che significa arrivare dall’altra parte. Non perfetti. Non senza ferite. Semplicemente qui.

Spero che un giorno, guardando queste fotografie, tu possa vedere non solo i tuoi bambini così come erano, ma anche te stessa. La donna che sei stata in tutti questi anni e tutto quello che hai costruito nonostante tutto.

I’ve been photographing some of these families for many years.

And honestly, watching them grow alongside my own children is one of the greatest privileges of this work.

There’s a little heartache to it too.

Because I get a front-row seat to just how quickly time passes.

What can I say other than I’m here for you, mama.

What can I say other than I’m here for you, mama.

I’m here to help stop that time that seems to get away from us, no matter how hard we try to slow down and enjoy the moment.

I’m here to see what only a mother’s heart will notice. The little things you know you’ll miss one day, even while you’re still living them.

I’m here to laugh with you when it’s time to laugh, and cry with you too, because motherhood is grieving. It’s loving something so deeply while knowing that time will keep taking pieces of it away.

The babies become the boys. The boys become teenagers. And somehow, the years you thought would last forever are suddenly the ones you’d give anything to have back.

So trust the mama who has lived the then and the now.

I know why these photographs matter.
