I’ve been inspired by so many words of advice over the last years and out of the many suggestions, stepping outside my comfort zone was something I heard and read often! One thing easier said than done, as often we find ourselves going with what’s familiar and what we know.
So when Emily contacted me to move their session forward and suggested I meet them at their home, I was excited and couldn’t wait to shoot somewhere new! Sometimes your ideas and thoughts drift further than you realise and you imagine things very differently to reality. When I stepped into their beautiful holiday home on Lake Weyba, I hadn’t quite imagined so many colours (you’ve all seen my white studio?!). I had a short moment of panic, of thinking that I possibly needed to move the session back to my studio and risking to run out of time. I wanted my comfort, the light I knew and the reliability of my space.
Light surrounds us nearly everywhere, everyday, at different times and in many forms. Sometimes it helps to step back, take 5 and simply look around you; to avoid running for your safety net.
These are some of my favourite maternity images to date, had I been stubborn enough to want my comfort, I would have missed these special moments in the warmth of the afternoon light. Step out of your comfort zone and try something new, you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve!
