Interrupting my usual feed, and brightening up what’s been a few grey and rainy days with a little joy.

Mine, film and our summers in Europe.

Four years doesn’t sound like a long time, but looking back at these images, it’s quite shocking to see how much they’ve all changed. How much they’ve grown. How different they look.

A little reminder of how quickly it all passes, and how glad you’ll be to have captured it.

Of all the photography I’ve done over the years, newborn photography is the one that asks you to slow down the most.

It doesn’t happen to your schedule. It has its own rhythm, its own pace, its own unfolding.

The little stretches, the pauses, the tiny fingers curling, the way a baby settles into their mother’s chest. Sometimes you wait. Sometimes you watch. Sometimes the most beautiful thing happens in the space between what you thought you were there to photograph.

I’ve learnt that you can’t rush these moments into existence. You have to be present enough to notice them.

And perhaps that’s what I love most about photographing newborns. It reminds me that not everything needs to be hurried. Some things are worth waiting for.

Newborn photography is about so much more than the pose.

It’s knowing how to create variety without constantly changing your setup. How to bring siblings into the photographs, work with different ages and personalities, recognise the moments worth waiting for, and know when to gently guide a family or simply let things unfold.

After 17 years of photographing families, these are the things that continue to shape the way I work. And they’re the things I want to share with you.

For my online newborn workshop, I’m opening up two real sessions, each with older siblings, and taking you behind the scenes of my approach - from the decisions I make while photographing, to culling, editing and bringing the finished work together through albums and wall art.

You’ll see the photographs, but more importantly, you’ll understand the thinking behind them. Both sessions will be recorded so you can revisit the teaching in your own time.

As the north prepares for autumn, we’re getting ready for the incoming summer, and it has me dreaming of summer 2027 in the US and Europe.

Conversations are happening, memories are resurfacing and plans are taking shape to make time for the life that never stops, as much as we beg it to.
