Just a reminder; they will never be this small again.

I ran into them by chance, the tiniest twins I once photographed as sleepy little babies…

So we’re making time to photograph them again, because this handbag-wearing, sunglasses-rocking version deserves their moment too.

28 years. This is the last photo of just the two

28 years.

This is the last photo of just the two of us. I was four.

Yesterday marked 28 years since I watched my father take his last breath. That moment changed everything.

The truth is, it’s complicated. He wasn’t always kind. My memories aren’t wrapped in softness. There was pain. There was fear. There were things no child should have had to carry.

But still, I carry this photo. Not to rewrite the story, but to honour the little girl in it. The one who lived through what she did not deserve. The one who still found a way to grow, to create, to love.

Some anniversaries aren’t loud. They don’t demand attention. But they still matter. This one always will.

And to anyone else holding grief that isn’t easy or clean, the kind wrapped in memory and survival, I see you. You’re not alone.

This is for her.
And for you.

We didn’t plan every moment. We just showed up,

Past bedtime.
Past sunset.
Still laughing, still swimming, still not ready to come in.

These are the moments I want to remember.
The wild, sandy, joy-filled ones that don’t fit inside a frame.
So we capture them. We feel them. We keep them.

What you see / What I see

You might see a peaceful photo;
soft light, gentle tones, a baby resting still.

But I see so much more.

I see the look exchanged between new parents when no one else is watching.
I see the breath a mother finally takes when someone else holds her baby for a moment.
I see the weight of love, and the beauty of becoming.

This is what newborn photography is to me.
Not perfection, but presence.
