Some loves show up before you feel even remotely ready.

I still remember sitting on the bathroom floor when Adria was only four or five months old… staring at the pregnancy test, seeing that second dot appear.
 The tiniest little mark that somehow held my entire future in it. Uncertain if I could do it.

I didn’t think I had the capacity. I didn’t think I had the space. And honestly, I didn’t think I had the energy to be anybody’s mother again so soon.

But life doesn’t sit there waiting for you to feel prepared. It just expands you. Ready or not.

Somehow, here we are, 18 years later. Five children. A whole life I never planned but grew into anyway. A heart that stretched every time I swore it couldn’t stretch more.

This is why maternity work means so much to me.
 It’s not the belly. It’s not the glow. It’s that moment of pause, before everything shifts. The moment where you’re standing in the doorway of a new version of yourself…the one who will love more, carry more, survive more, and surprise herself in ways she never thought possible.

And maybe that’s the real magic of all of this. You walk into it convinced you won’t manage; and then somehow you become the woman who can hold whole worlds.

There is a story I keep coming back to.
A photographer told me she once shot eighty sessions a month.
Eighty.
And when she looked back, she could not remember half of that year.
Her own family, her health, her joy… sacrificed so she could show up for everyone else’s memories.

That line stayed with me because we all feel it in some way. This tension between caring for our own lives and caring for the lives we are trusted to photograph.

It made me look at my own world differently.
My work.
My children.
The pace.
The pressure.
The way motherhood pulls us forward and stretches us thin at the same time.

And it reminded me why I do this the way I do.
Slow.
Intentional.
Emotional first.
I want to create from presence, not from burnout.

So many families wait.
So many mothers wait.
So many of us wait…
for things to calm down or for the perfect time.

But life does not slow down on its own.
We have to choose the moments we want to remember before they slip through us.
